But before going deeper into the topic, it is worth highlighting a premise: technical tools are not limited to what we are exposed to in our daily lives. Innovation is the byproduct of something much larger—it has ceased to be an option and became a rule.

Cinema, Emotion, and the Search for Identity

With this evolution, cinema underwent drastic transformations, keeping pace with the changes of the world itself. However, when addressing this specific slice of society, we deal with feelings that technical progress may never fully comprehend.

Advancements occur at a rapid pace because within them lies a deep quest: after all, what defines humanity? Our existence is intrinsically linked to this topic due to the fundamental role we play in our environment. This brings us to the question: what is our role in relation to the surroundings that encompass us?

Consciousness, Faith, and the Construction of Reality

This question can be answered through two paths. The first involves scholars, philosophers, and scientific concepts; yet, within them, we find the same origin: the individual analyzed by oneself. The second path is religion.

Faith emerges as a primary source of knowledge—akin to the almost omnipotent position that digital resources occupy in the 21st century. It is a concept that, although formulated by humans, seeks objectivity by attempting to explain reality itself. The complexity of this issue becomes intriguing over the years, leading many to reflect on the power of consciousness, isolation, and the meaning of the images reflected in our eyes.

From a religious perspective, reality resides in devotion. It is about accepting a secondary role relative to the divine, which, to many, may feel uncomfortable and cause discord. Through this lens, a person still views themselves as incomplete and segregates their individuality; relative perception may bring moments of happiness, but not fulfillment.

Digital Omnipresence and the Segregation of Power

And what is the role of modern advancements in this scenario? From the 2000s onward, the digital ecosystem assumed a crucial function by storing data that governs global dynamics—secrets that a small entrepreneur in the countryside would never imagine existed. This dependency leads us to question why, even in an interconnected world, everything feels so individualistic and guarded.

Ideally, a functional society requires a set of ethical values, among which is the free sharing of information. Throughout history, humanity has suffered from the centralization of power in the hands of a few, as occurred under monarchical regimes. The main correlation between this and the current scenario is that the digital transformation, while universal, remains segregating: it exists and is put to the test, yet access to its full potential remains limited.

Cinema Facing Innovation: Spectacle vs. Content

The central issue is not cinema in opposition to technical progress, but rather how society communicates through the seventh art using these tools. What stance should cinema take in this era?

To say that cinema has free rein to address the excesses and gaps of modernity is a misconception. What would justify hundred-million-dollar productions grossing billions, while talented artists cannot even secure a job opportunity after leaving university?

This reflects the lack of democratization of knowledge. The cinematic medium has become a restricted space where only those in positions of privilege benefit from true technological potential.

While it is fascinating to watch a visual spectacle like James Cameron's Avatar, as critical consumers we must understand that the most advanced innovations belong to small groups. The most serious issue arises when the audience begins to value only the visual and technical aspects. When this happens, the market starts selling increasingly superficial innovations. As reflective beings, we need to filter what is quality content from what is merely an empty work.

Free Knowledge and True Creativity

This is not a destructive critique of the advancements of our time, but rather a viewpoint on why technology should not be the primary source of human creativity. The problem is not the use of the tool itself, but the exclusivity of access maintained by an elite—something that turns the pursuit of knowledge into an act of resistance.

Knowledge must, in its entirety, be shared. If we consume only what is produced by a centralizing minority, mass innovation will result in shallow content. We must reclaim the essence of creativity to understand what is truly in our hands: the pursuit of free knowledge.

Como seres reflexivos, precisamos filtrar o que é conteúdo de qualidade e o que é apenas uma obra vazia.

Esta não é uma crítica destrutiva aos avanços do nosso tempo, mas sim um ponto de vista sobre o motivo pelo qual a tecnologia não deve ser a principal fonte de criatividade humana. O problema não é o uso da ferramenta em si, mas a exclusividade de acesso mantida por uma elite — algo que torna a busca pelo saber um ato de resistência.

O conhecimento deve, em sua totalidade, ser compartilhado. Se consumirmos apenas o que é produzido por uma minoria centralizadora, a inovação em massa resultará em conteúdos rasos. Devemos resgatar a essência da criatividade para compreender o que realmente está em nossas mãos: a busca pelo conhecimento livre.
